Hygiene
Greenhouse hygiene starts with Bevo’s Hygiene Team.
Bevo’s Hygiene Team consists of several people, depending on the season. They are responsible for all aspects of hygiene at Bevo, including the structures, machines, tools, and everything that comes inside the walls. It is one of our most important teams — at the tip of the spear for keeping Bevo disease and pest free from the onset.
Unfortunately, we also have to keep visitors out of the greenhouse, as they can bring plant pathogens from the outside into our facility.
- 1Entry cleaning and disinfecting machines, hand sanitizers and hygiene mats at every entrance
- 2Employees change into Bevo clothing and footwear as soon as they enter, before work starts
- 3Hands washed and disinfected between activities, before and after every break, and whenever re-entering the greenhouse
- 4Bays cleaned and disinfected before new plants are laid, and again after they are emptied for shipping
- 5Pathways and warehouse floors disinfected daily
- 6Foot baths used throughout the facility when moving from one zone to the next

Automation
Machines that bring precision — and save backs
Our "Mothership"
Developed by our own team, this massive machine spans an entire bay width, allowing our specialized teams to work in the crops without walking through them but “hovering” over them, either laying down or sitting on the machine. They can put sticks in and clip plants to sticks without having to bend over for hours at a time. A great back saver to be sure!
Grading Machine
We automatically grade many of our young plants using our computerized grading machine. It is especially useful when grafting plants to be able to match sizing perfectly, and lets us place the baby plants in any configuration in the tray — for example, only using 120 of the 240 holes in a staggered pattern.
Spacing Machine
Plants need to be spaced to give them room to grow and better access to the light. Our spacing machine picks up the plants from one area, brings them to another, and its belts separate and lower the plants back to the floor with space around each plant.
Sticking Machine
This self-propelled machine inserts bamboo stakes into the grow blocks, directly in the growing bays.
Seeding Machine
A moving sowing machine that can be used anywhere in the greenhouse, primarily to sow cucumber seeds. It picks up the blocks in rows in order to sow the seeds accurately.
Seeding Line
A stationary seeding machine that allows us to automatically seed into plug trays.
Mechanized Potting Lines
Three main potting lines fill pots with growing media, allowing our team to work on the pots in a standing position. Efficient and healthier for the body!
Glass Roof Cleaning
An automatic roof washing machine uses the roof gutters as tracks to roll over the entire roof surface, keeping the glass ultra clean and crystal clear.

The systems at the heart of our facility
Climate Control Computer System
At the heart of our facility, this system constantly calculates weather, light, humidity, temperature and more — opening and closing windows, adjusting heat, switching fans and lights, and controlling the watering strategy. All under the direct control of our head grower and growing team, as it still takes the human hand to make the fine adjustments your baby plants need.
Water IQ Opticlear Diamond System
Disinfects all water we use for growing — incoming city water, water from our substantial storage pond, and recycled water — so bacteria and other biological matter are completely removed.
Automatic Irrigation System
Our automatic irrigation can treat the water with every kind of fertilizer and stabilize it with hydrogen peroxide.
Automatic Generators
Automatic generators can supply power to the entire facility whenever required, so our specialized equipment always has the power it needs.
